Acceptable Use Policy
The rules for using Portal Scraper, especially for email outreach. They form part of our Terms of Service.
1. Email outreach
You are responsible for every message you send through the service. You must:
- Only send unsolicited marketing emails where the law allows it. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, you can generally email people at limited companies, LLPs and public bodies ("corporate subscribers") without prior consent. You must not send unsolicited marketing to individuals, sole traders or partnerships in England, Wales and Northern Ireland unless they have consented or a valid soft opt-in applies. If you cannot tell which kind of subscriber someone is, do not send.
- Clearly identify yourself and your business in every message, with a valid way to contact you.
- Include a simple, free way to opt out in every marketing message, and stop contacting anyone who opts out or objects, promptly and across all your campaigns.
- Make sure your messages are relevant to the recipient's professional role.
- Use honest sender names and subject lines that reflect the content.
- Have your own lawful basis under data protection law for the personal data you use, and give recipients the privacy information the law requires, for example by linking to your privacy notice.
2. People you must not target
Do not use the service to contact or profile:
- private individuals who applied for planning permission for their own home;
- neighbours, objectors, consultees or anyone else who appears in planning records other than in a business capacity;
- anyone at a personal or home email address or phone number, unless you have their consent;
- anyone who has asked not to be contacted, including addresses on the service's suppression list.
3. Use of data
You must not:
- resell, publish or share data from the service as a dataset or list, or use it to build a competing product;
- use the data to harass, intimidate, discriminate against or track anyone, or to infer sensitive information about people, such as their health, religion or finances;
- upload personal data that you have no right to use, such as lists bought or scraped without a lawful basis;
- combine data from the service with other sources in a way the people concerned would not reasonably expect.
4. Use of the service
You must not:
- scrape, crawl or use automated tools to access the service, except for features we provide;
- get around usage limits, for example by creating multiple accounts;
- share your sign-in details or let others use your account;
- reverse engineer, decompile or copy the service;
- probe, scan or test the security of the service without our written permission;
- upload malware, or send content that is unlawful, deceptive, defamatory, obscene or that infringes anyone's rights;
- overload the service or interfere with other customers' use of it, or with the reputation of our sending infrastructure.
5. What we do about breaches
We may investigate suspected breaches and, depending on how serious they are, warn you, pause or cancel queued messages, suppress recipients, pause sending from a mailbox or domain, or suspend or close your account. We may report unlawful activity to the relevant authorities.
6. Reporting misuse
If you have received a message sent through Portal Scraper that you believe breaks these rules, email [contact email] with a copy of the message, including its headers if possible.
